The Daedalus Encounter v1.2 update
This update supercedes all previous software patches and updates!
Installation
This file should have been unzipped to the C:\DAEDALUS directory (or
wherever you installed Daedalus). All you need to do once the patch
files are unzipped is go to your Daedalus directory and run the PATCH.BAT
program by simply typing "PATCH" at the DOS command line. The Daedalus
v1.2 files will then be automatically installed.
Problems solved with this update:
1. "mmopensound" and "can't write to specified wave device" errors at
startup screen now fixed; only affected low-end sound cards.
2. "mmopensound" and "can't write to specified wave device" errors in
puzzles now fixed; only affected low-end sound cards.
3. Puzzle setting no longer gets reset to difficult after escaping from
movie or puzzle sequence.
4. Save game routine now saves the player's difficulty setting.
5. Loading a previous game will no longer require solving the same puzzle
twice (Red door).
6. Save-game routine failure to add .DAT extension on some machines fixed.
7. "Continue" button no longer causes a "subscript out of range" error
when used without a saved game loaded.
8. Save-game routine now saves audio levels.
9. Escaping out of a puzzle and immediately jumping to a cinematic no
longer results in a GPF error.
10. Arbitrary debugger appearance problem fixed.
11. "Yes" or "No" option immediately before Mizar jump lag time
eliminated.
12. Error message replaced by an "insert CD" dialog box when the game is
started without a CD in the drive.
13. Standard 16-color Windows VGA driver no longer works with Daedalus.
14. Maze orb continuity problem fixed.
15. Art replaced in puzzle help.
16. Opening credits movie palette problem fixed.
17. Database can no longer become full.
18. Vakkar Freighter cargo door now has more room for error.
19. Memory leak that intermittently caused loss of audio/video synch found
and corrected.
20. Crew Quarters grapple-arm hang fixed.
21. "QTIM.DLL" error that came up when escape was pressed immediately after
a puzzle found and corrected.
